When planning a trip with your pet, the first thing you should check is Veterinární dokumenty, úřední papíry, které potvrzují zdravotní stav a právní oprávnění vašeho zvířete k přepravě. Also known as zvířecí cestovní povolení, they are required by úřady, aerolinky i hotely. One of the most common forms is the pet passport, malý cestovní doklad s údaji o vakcinacích, čipování a majiteli, which replaces separate zdravotní certifikáty při mezinárodních cestách. Without these papers, i the simplest road trip can turn into a legal headache.
Besides the pet passport, most owners also need a veterinární osvědčení, oficiální výpis od veterináře potvrzující aktuální očkování, odčervení a zdravotní stav. This certificate is the basis for any travel permit (cestovní povolení) required by border control. If you plan to fly, airlines often ask for a health certificate issued not older than 10 days. When the pet is older or has chronic issues, the vet may also provide a povolení k přepravě that outlines special care during the journey. For owners facing end‑of‑life decisions, the legal framework also includes documents for eutanazii or post‑mortem handling, such as cremation or burial permits. All these records share one goal: to protect the animal’s welfare and to assure authorities that the pet meets safety standards.
